LPI Partner of the Month November 2012: Chemnitzer Linux-Tage

On March 16 and 17, 2013, the Chemnitzer Linux-Tage (CLT) are back into the central lecture and seminar building of the Technical University of Chemnitz. This event celebrates its 15th anniversary next year, themed „Vote: Freedom“. For many years, LPI supports this event as a sponsor and offers exams at promotional prices for visitors. The next conference focuses on giving visitors an understanding of the variety and the opportunities of Open Source. Interested persons are invited to participate in the starting Call for Papers and Call for Presentations with common and not-so-common topics. For Open Source puts forward the variety, and every new contribution adds to the value of this event!

LPI participated in 2004 for the first time at this event. Since then, visitors have the possibility to certify their knowledge through LPI exams. Meanwhile LPI and its exams have developed to an inherent part of the Chemnitzer Linux-Tage. This event offers a special chance to take the exams at a promotional price. Next year, this possibility will be given to the guests of this conference as well.

The Chemnitzer Linux-Tage gain its charm not only through their visitors, but especially through their numerous organizers and innumerable supporters and volunteers. The organizing team consists of students, employees, and alumni of the TU Chemnitz. Furthermore there are many volunteers of the IN Chemnitz e.V., the Chemnitzer Linux User Group, the University Computing Team, and the Faculty of Computer Sciences at the TU Chemnitz.

In more than 100 presentations and workshops, topics around Linux and Open Source are presented and discussed. At the same time, over 35 exhibitors present their passion and connection with the Linux community. Amongst various distributions and projects there are also numerous producers and service providers. The resulting opportunity to meet with developers and share interesting opinions, is still used actively. Besides essential parts, such as Linux Night, Dr. Tux, and Indoor Camping, there are further surprising highlights every year. Thus, the Retro Party 2012 gave interesting insights about past times of technology, software, and computing history to regular visitors and interested persons.

This annual event always had its home in Chemnitz, the third largest city in Saxony. The first Chemnitzer Linux-Tage already took place in 1999. Since then, it became an important two-day event of the year in March. For those who have to stay at home audio streams of the presentations are available since 2005, and since 2009 also video streams. At the same time records of the past years offer a sneak peak at things to come, and it is as well a good opportunity to refresh what has been heard.

Young Linux fans are also welcome, and will not miss out during the weekend. Many activities for entertainment will be offered at the event. Thus, young guests can let their creativity run wild while tinkering, painting, and playing.
